13-day / 12-night itinerary: Bali - East Java

Day 1

Upon your arrival at Denpasar airport, you will be greeted by your French-speaking guide from Bali Ethnik. They will take you to a beauty salon near the airport to enjoy a one-hour traditional Balinese massage, giving you a taste of the Balinese way of life. Afterward, you will head to your first hotel in Sanur. We have selected an excellent beachfront accommodation for you, with a pool, located on the tropical garden coast.

Day 2

You will start in the morning heading towards the Jatiluwih region. You will take a one to two-hour stroll through the romantic terraced rice fields where the film “3 Tout le beauté du monde” was shot, starring Marc Lavoine. You’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of the mountainous landscapes leading to a flower and fruit market on the way to Bedugul, with its lake nestled at the bottom of the ancient volcano crater. Next, you will visit a semi-aquatic temple dating back to the 17th century, dedicated to the goddess of water. In the afternoon, you will embark on a one-hour hike through the primary forest before crossing Lake Tamblingan in a traditional canoe guided by a fisherman. Upon arrival at the unique charming hotel on stilts, offering an idyllic view of the mountainous landscape, you will attend a Balinese cooking class. You will have the opportunity to taste your own dish for dinner!

Day 3

You will start in the morning for a hike (one to three hours, depending on your preference) through the jungle, providing an opportunity to enjoy the idyllic nature and traverse clove, coffee, cocoa, and spice plantations. Afterward, you will hit the road to Java, which you will reach after a ferry crossing. You will spend the night in the bustling city of Jember.

Day 4

You will hit the road early in the morning to reach a wide river where you will leave your vehicle and hop on a motorcycle taxi that will take you to an area inaccessible by paved roads. From there, you will embark on a secret hike through the jungle for about an hour and a half round trip, leading you to a stunning untouched beach on the Indian Ocean. You can enjoy a solitary swim in the vast waves, surrounded by nature. Afterward, you will join a fisherman to catch fish using a net, which you will then grill over an open fire on the beautiful beach amidst the wilderness. In the evening, you will set up your own tent and prepare dinner using ingredients you find in the surrounding nature. Finally, you will sleep under the open sky, immersed in the beauty of the land and sky.

Day 5

You will start in the morning and head to a stunning white sandy beach surrounded by rugged hills, located at the western tip of the Meru Betiri Nature Park. Here, you may encounter colonies of monkeys emerging from the coastal jungle, as well as harmless cousins of the famous Komodo dragons. Depending on the tide, you can take a swim or embark on a short hike in the massif. Alternatively, you may choose to simply enjoy the romantic solitude of this exotic location. After a grilled fish lunch, you will embark on a three-hour drive to reach the edge of the Bromo caldera, where your hotel is located at an altitude of 2,200 meters. You might be surprised by the cold temperatures (make sure to pack a warm sweater and a raincoat).

Day 6

You will witness the sunrise from a Jeep, and then descend into the caldera to embark on an easy ascent of Mount Bromo. Afterward, you will have breakfast at the hotel and have some time to rest before heading towards the east coast of Java in the midday. You will arrive at a charming hotel with a swimming pool, located on the outskirts of the city. The rest of the evening is free for you to explore and enjoy at your leisure.

Day 7

You will depart early in the morning towards Mount Ijen to begin the ascent alongside the sulfur porters. After an hour and a half hike, you will have the opportunity to descend into the crater and approach the edge of its turquoise lake, as long as the sulfur fumes are not too overwhelming. In the afternoon, you will hit the road again to return to Bali, crossing the ferry. Upon arrival on the “Island of the Gods,” you can explore designated vehicle-accessible trails within the natural park (with reduced speed!) to observe deer, monkeys, and birds in their natural habitat. You can also enjoy a drink at a three-story wooden panoramic restaurant overlooking the forest, providing an excellent vantage point. Continuing along the northern coast, you will make your way to Lovina. In the late afternoon, you will arrive at a cozy guesthouse with a swimming pool, run by a Balinese family.

Day 8

You will wake up at dawn to board a traditional outrigger canoe and witness a unique sunrise from the sea, with the possibility of spotting dolphins if you wish. Upon returning to the mainland, you will have time to enjoy breakfast at your hotel before hitting the road again. You will then head to the island’s hot springs, where you can relax in beautifully sculpted pools. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to visit a small hillside Buddhist monastery and explore the meditation rooms. In the afternoon, you will continue your journey along the northern coast, passing through small villages nestled in the mountainous hinterland, surrounded by landscapes of Rambutan trees. You will embark on a one and a half-hour hike to reach a stunning waterfall. Finally, you will arrive at a small hotel in Amed, carefully selected for its excellent beachfront location and swimming pool, situated on the east coast of the island in the region you are exploring.

Day 9

In the morning, you will head to the Royal Palace of Amlapura, which is still inhabited by a few Balinese aristocratic descendants. You will then visit the traditional market, immersing yourself in the authentic ambiance of the local people. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to swim in the private pool of the former king of Karangasem. You can then take a short walk through the magnificent rice fields in the Tirtagangga region. In the afternoon, you can follow a path that leads to a hidden white sandy beach, where you can relax and enjoy a coconut. Return to your hotel for a free evening. Next, you will visit Amed to observe traditional salt-making techniques using prehistoric methods. You will return to the hotel via a picturesque route, and the evening will be free for you to enjoy at your leisure.

You can then visit the small village of Budakeling, where you can explore jewelry workshops and witness the craftsmanship of local artisans. Afterward, you can take a walk to a small village temple surrounded by beautiful rice terraces. Return to your hotel for a free evening to relax and enjoy at your leisure.

Day 10

In the early morning, you will head to the small village of Bebandem for a hike of one to three hours through a maze of rice terraces, allowing you to experience the daily life of the peaceful villagers. Your walk will conclude with a visit to a tribe of Bali’s early inhabitants before the Javanese influence. Lunch will be served in Padang Bay, and you will have the opportunity to visit a small secluded cove at Bloo Lagoon, where, if the tide permits, you can go snorkeling. Next, you will visit the town of Klungkung to explore the ancient Palace of Justice. There, you can also visit an interesting museum dedicated to Balinese daily life and traditions. Afterward, you will head to the mountainous hinterland surrounded by rice terraces. We have selected an excellent accommodation for you in the southern part of Mount Agung, complete with a swimming pool. Upon arrival, you can take a stroll through the surrounding rice fields and swim in the river, following the Balinese tradition. Enjoy a free evening to relax and explore at your leisure.

Day 11

In the morning, you will head north towards Kintamani to enjoy the superb view of the Batur volcano caldera and its lake. From there, you will embark on a one-hour hike through the lava flows. Afterward, you will descend to the northern coast of the island. In the afternoon, your guide will take you to the Mountain of Kings, Gunung Kawi, where you can admire the enormous rock-cut mausoleums and visit the sacred baths of Tampaksiring. Finally, you will arrive in the late afternoon at a small hotel located in a village near Ubud. Here, you can relax and enjoy the intimate and family-like atmosphere, as well as take advantage of the swimming pool and spa facilities.

Certainly! You have the flexibility to modify the program to include either the 1.5-hour ascent to the summit of Mount Batur (mandatory, with an approximate cost of 20€ per person) or the 3-hour round-trip hike through the primary forest to reach the hidden Hindu sanctuaries in the Gunung Abang area (at an elevation of 2152 meters). Please let us know your preference, and we can make the necessary arrangements for your chosen option.

Day 12

Dans la matinée, you will start by exploring the city center of Ubud, including the traditional market, Balinese beauty salons, luxurious spas, and quaint shopping streets. Afterward, you can embark on a short hike through the Ubud rice terraces, leading you to a small organic restaurant nestled in the rural surroundings. Upon returning to Ubud, you will have the opportunity to indulge in an Asian-designed body treatment, followed by a steam bath that will enhance the receptiveness of your skin to subsequent treatments. The evening will be free for you to enjoy at your leisure at the hotel.

Day 13

Last-minute shopping, final swim, last massage, and it will already be time to think about heading back to the airport, which is located half an hour away, where we will personally wish you a safe journey home.
